A special week.

This week I have been able to celebrate two anniversaries. One is due to the fact that I have been married for 57 years: and the other is that the Royal Air Force was founded 100 years ago.
Is there a connection ? … There sure is ! .. For it was during my two years service in the RAF that I met my future wife, which turned out to be the luckiest day of my life.
I suppose that I was lucky after being conscripted into the RAF as I became a radar operator in ground controlled air defence, so seeing the one hundred aircraft flypast on TV reminded me that during my time in the service I never flew in or even saw a single aircraft on the ground.
However, I did get to go to sea on …
… one of these !

Happy Anniversary on both counts! There is much to be said for being with one wonderful partner for 57 years. I’m Canadian, and am aware that members of the RAF were stationed on bases here while training during WWII. So we have a soft spot for all of those brave men, who sacrificed so much for the free world.

Congratulations on both counts! My bro and high school buddy skipped school, drove to Canada from U.S. Midwest to join the RCAF during WWII. They were rejected as underage, but after graduation joined U.S. Navy as battle heating up in Pacific. Bro was involved in communication for submarine service, stationed in Australia we eventually learned — never in direct line of fire so came home safely.
