  • My Life and Times

I was born in 1939 BC.
    That’s ‘Before Computers’.

Luckily I survived the following events in my life, such as

World War II, The London Blitz, Rationing, and worst of all… Archbishop Temple’s School.

During the mid 1950s I was enjoying Rock ‘n’ Roll and being a first generation teenager, when suddenly, just like Elvis, I found myself in uniform during ‘The Cold War’…and then

I became ‘a family’. Which meant that I sort of missed the ‘swinging sixties’, but still managed to look a complete prat in the 70s, just like everyone else.

During the ‘Thatcher Years’ I lost my hair and a lot of people lost a good deal more. My career fluctuated to say the least as I was demoted, promoted, fired and hired a number of times, but still I managed to stagger on into a welcome retirement and to celebrate 56 years of happy marriage.

A peddling ‘plonker’ !

Posted by Big John on September 22, 2017

Today I was returning to my car in Sainsbury’s supermarket car park with a fully loaded trolley (cart) when I encountered a young man on a bicycle who had decided to peddle round and round in a tight circle right in the middle of the footpath. He was wearing a woollen hat pulled down over his ears, although it was a warm sunny day, and seemed completely oblivious to the shoppers who had to make a ‘detour’ around him to avoid a collision as he weaved and wobbled to maintain his balance.

Why was he doing this ? … Yes, you guessed it .. He was just another of those smartphone ‘zombies’ who seem to multiply by the day.

Why ? .. you may ask, didn’t he get off of his bike to use his ‘phone, or at least find a more convenient place to practice his stupid stunt ?

Who knows ? .. Perhaps he was ‘stoned’ ? .. Perhaps he was disabled in some way ? .. Perhaps he was ‘bonkers’ ? .. Perhaps he was posing for a cycling ‘selfie’ ? ..  Most likely he was just in that ubiquitous  …

… texting trance !

The ones that annoy me are not the texters but the ones that carry on a loud conversation oblivious of the fact that we can all get their half of the conversation ! (By the way, I am still trying to decipher your comment on my blog entry about Gregory Peck !)

This breed is not only a menace to others, they all seem to be blessed with the death wish as well. Best to keep a very safe distance from them,

Translation for Ginnie … “Get it down your neck” … referring to the act of swallowing something. .. 🙂
