  • My Life and Times

I was born in 1939 BC.
    That’s ‘Before Computers’.

Luckily I survived the following events in my life, such as

World War II, The London Blitz, Rationing, and worst of all… Archbishop Temple’s School.

During the mid 1950s I was enjoying Rock ‘n’ Roll and being a first generation teenager, when suddenly, just like Elvis, I found myself in uniform during ‘The Cold War’…and then

I became ‘a family’. Which meant that I sort of missed the ‘swinging sixties’, but still managed to look a complete prat in the 70s, just like everyone else.

During the ‘Thatcher Years’ I lost my hair and a lot of people lost a good deal more. My career fluctuated to say the least as I was demoted, promoted, fired and hired a number of times, but still I managed to stagger on into a welcome retirement and to celebrate 56 years of happy marriage.

Don’t get too excited !

Posted by Big John on July 8, 2017

Today is my 56th wedding anniversary !

This year the old ‘trouble and strife’ not only gave me the usual apron and ‘Marigold’ rubber gloves, but, Oh, joy ! .. she included a new mop and dust pan.

So, I’ve polished up the old ball and chain and am considering how to celebrate this joyful occasion.

Dinner at a restaurant ?  …  A visit to the local pub ? …  A Chinese take-away ? … A fish and chip supper ? … or perhaps just a ‘quiet night in’ adding a little teriyaki sauce to our sushi and tempura prawns and listening to a cork or two ‘pop!’.

I wonder what’s on …

Sky Movies ?

  1. I’m the same age as you. Would have had 60 years last month. Life’s been good, Eh?

Congratulations and best wishes that you see many more new mops and dust pans.

  3. Fifty-six years with the same woman is something to celebrate. Our 56th is coming up in two months. Hope she doesn’t give me a dust pan!

  4. Congratulations! 56 years is something to celebrate. Long life, in good health, is a true blessing. Take her somewhere nice for dinner.

Congratulations! Treasure these years. Don’t be so rude as to unexpectedly check out on life as my husband did a month to the day before our 43rd anniversary. When I join him, wherever it is that we go, I’ll let him know that must be avoided in our next life.

Of course I congratulate you but, even more, I want to see a picture of the two of you !!! I’m sure you’ve heard of “selfies” …. now’s the time. Hugs to both of you.
