  • My Life and Times

I was born in 1939 BC.
    That’s ‘Before Computers’.

Luckily I survived the following events in my life, such as

World War II, The London Blitz, Rationing, and worst of all… Archbishop Temple’s School.

During the mid 1950s I was enjoying Rock ‘n’ Roll and being a first generation teenager, when suddenly, just like Elvis, I found myself in uniform during ‘The Cold War’…and then

I became ‘a family’. Which meant that I sort of missed the ‘swinging sixties’, but still managed to look a complete prat in the 70s, just like everyone else.

During the ‘Thatcher Years’ I lost my hair and a lot of people lost a good deal more. My career fluctuated to say the least as I was demoted, promoted, fired and hired a number of times, but still I managed to stagger on into a welcome retirement and to celebrate 56 years of happy marriage.

What ! .. No Harry Potter ?

Posted by Big John on December 17, 2013

After the ‘over-the-top’ BBC and press coverage of the life and death of Nelson Mandela, one would have expected that he would have come top of the latest list of the most famous and influential people in the history of the world, as he was even compared to Jesus Christ: but old ‘Madiba’ only rated the number 356th place on the list headed by …

… Yes ! … That’s right …  Jesus Christ !

Now, please feel free to correct me, but to the best of my knowledge, there is no actual proof that Jesus ever existed, unlike other religious leaders such as No. 4 on the list .. Mohammad, No. 17 .. Martin Luther, No. 52  .. Buddha, and even No. 89 .. Ali, “the father of Sufism”, so should this mystery man of a ‘Messiah’ be on this list at all ?

Well, perhaps he could be squeezed in at the No. 85 spot with that other great ‘mythical’ character …

… King Arthur !  ..  😉

Somehow I can see Nelson Mandela chuckling over this poll, that is if he wasted the time contemplating it.
