  • My Life and Times

I was born in 1939 BC.
    That’s ‘Before Computers’.

Luckily I survived the following events in my life, such as

World War II, The London Blitz, Rationing, and worst of all… Archbishop Temple’s School.

During the mid 1950s I was enjoying Rock ‘n’ Roll and being a first generation teenager, when suddenly, just like Elvis, I found myself in uniform during ‘The Cold War’…and then

I became ‘a family’. Which meant that I sort of missed the ‘swinging sixties’, but still managed to look a complete prat in the 70s, just like everyone else.

During the ‘Thatcher Years’ I lost my hair and a lot of people lost a good deal more. My career fluctuated to say the least as I was demoted, promoted, fired and hired a number of times, but still I managed to stagger on into a welcome retirement and to celebrate 56 years of happy marriage.

Up and Running (Well Almost).

Posted by Big John on August 18, 2006

Congratulations to ‘Longrider’ for being the first to find my new home.

As someone who is ‘computer illiterate’ it will take me some time to find my way around this site by ‘trial and error’, so please excuse any ‘cock-ups’ that may appear.

Meanwhile over at ‘blog-city’ I have now been inundated with bloody ‘spam’.

I’ve been a bit busy over the last few days with work around the house etc. after my recent heating system upgrade, so I’m sorry if I have not been ‘visiting’ many of you or posting comments. but as ‘Arnie’ would say…….

……… “I’ll be back” !

Frankly, once you get used to WordPress, you won’t want to go back. I don’t know about the hosted version, but mine gives me much greater control over things like SPAM. Do you have Akismet included in the hosted version. It pretty much kills all SPAM comments. If you have the facility to do so, I fully recommend “Bad Behaviour” as this stops the SPAM bots even getting to the site.

Anyway, having got used to mine, I’m reasonably au fait with WordPress now, so you can always ask if you need to. 😉

Thanks for the help and advice Mark. Yes I do have ‘Akismet’, so I hope that I don’t get what I have at ‘blog-city’ at the moment.

Hey John….Glad I found you and thanks for leaving the link on your previous site. I’ll change it on my blog as soon as I get a chance.
Love the look of your new home here and hope it’ll be much less annoying for you.
