Ye Olde Olympics
Posted by Big John on June 15, 2012
Well I never thought that I would get a laugh out of the London Olympics, but despite the obscene amount of money wasted on this event I must say that when I read of the plans for the opening ceremony I nearly pissed my pants.
It was last Tuesday morning that the opening ceremony was launched as a vision of rural Britain, which the designer said ..”reflected the reality of the British countryside”, a land of fields, ploughmen, thatched cottages, maypoles, Glastonbury, the Proms and cricket. Oh, come on ! Not even the most ingenuous American tourist would believe that vision of “little old England”.
There will even be real live cows, sheep and horses wandering about. I’m not sure if there will be any pigs. Probably not as they are not very ‘PC’ when it comes to our religious minorities. I just hope that they have plenty of volunteers following these animals with large buckets and spades. There will be real grass, an oak tree, and, although it’s certain to rain, synthetic clouds suspended from wires above the stadium. In other words .. a load of bucolic bollocks !
Oh! .. and before I forget .. There will be a “big bell” …
… Beijing it ain’t !

Oh, my, John … That opening ceremony model is pretty incredible. Don’t they know that its asking for trouble when you bring live animals into play? I will say this, though … I was not the least interested in the Olympics before but now I can’t wait to see how this turns out !!
