Mad about the Monarchy ?

I hope that I manage to get through this four day ’Diamond Jubilee’ holiday nonsense without exploding, but if I hear another commentator say or read in another newspaper that … “The whole country is celebrating” … I may well do so !
What is it with this “whole country” thing ? … I don’t know about elsewhere, but I can say for certain that there is very little sign of the local population around here celebrating the fact that ‘er Maj has been living a pampered and privilaged life for the past sixty years. In fact I have just been for a two mile walk and saw only one house decorated with jubilee ‘tat’. I called in at a pub for a ‘half-way’ pint and saw no sign of a union flag, red, white and blue bunting or specially brewed ’jubilee ale’.
I keep reading that we ‘republicans’ are only a small minority …
… I don’t believe it !

I never saw any parties today either. Mind you we had bother enough when Tesco sent over jubilee badges to be worn by staff here. Stupid move since flags and emblems are such a contentious issue in Northern Ireland. Needless to say the badges were soon gathered up and returned to HQ.

I was wondering when you would comment about the big celebration ! Here in the States we are led to believe that the ENTIRE country is adither … glad to see there are holdouts.

What??? You didn’t celebrate?? Our TV here across the pond led me to believe the whole of the British Empire was celebrating. I must confess I didn’t watch any of the TV specials shown here.
