  • My Life and Times

I was born in 1939 BC. That's 'Before Computers'. Luckily I survived the following events in my life, such as World War II, The London Blitz, Rationing, and worst of all... Archbishop Temple's School.

During the mid 1950s I was enjoying Rock 'n' Roll and being a first generation teenager, when suddenly, just like Elvis, I found myself in uniform during 'The Cold War'...and then

I became 'a family'. Which meant that I sort of missed the 'swinging sixties', but still managed to look a complete prat in the 70s, just like everyone else.

During the 'Thatcher Years' I lost my hair and a lot of people lost a good deal more. My career fluctuated to say the least as I was demoted, promoted, fired and hired a number of times, but still I managed to stagger on into a welcome retirement and to celebrate 47 years of happy marriage.

… and she’s still ’selling’ newspapers.

Posted by Big John on October 5, 2007

So poor Mohamed al Fayed would like to see old Phil in the dock at The Old Bailey, charged with plotting the murder of his son and Tony Blair’s (pause)  ’peoples’ princess’ (sniff). Well, as much as I would also like to see that, I think that he has got as much chance of it happening as he has of seeing his application to be a British citizen subject of ‘er Maj’ approved.

What is the point of this inquest ? It is estimated that it will cost us tax payers £10 million ! and for what ? Will the verdict be any different from the findings of the previous enquiries carried out by the French police and our own Lord Stevens ? … Of course not ? Lord Justice Scott Baker will see to that.

In the meantime our newspapers are full of page after page of photographs and expert analysis old cobblers about the investigation into the tragic death of this young mother and her latest lover more than ten years ago.

Surely they can’t keep this up for the next six months or so  … Can they ? … Well I bleedin’ well hope not, as I can already describe the lobby of The Ritz hotel in great detail, and I have no wish to read more speculation about the intimate details of this unfortunate young woman’s private life.

Of all the stupid headlines at the moment, I loved The Daily Mail’s, which accompanied a photograph of a smiling Diana in a lift with Dodi al Fayed, and read … ‘WHAT DID HER SMILE SIGNIFY?’

All that it signified, you journalistic morons, was that she was probably happy, had a very rich boyfriend, and, as usual, …

…  was having a bloody good time !
