  • My Life and Times

I was born in 1939 BC. That's 'Before Computers'. Luckily I survived the following events in my life, such as World War II, The London Blitz, Rationing, and worst of all... Archbishop Temple's School.

During the mid 1950s I was enjoying Rock 'n' Roll and being a first generation teenager, when suddenly, just like Elvis, I found myself in uniform during 'The Cold War'...and then

I became 'a family'. Which meant that I sort of missed the 'swinging sixties', but still managed to look a complete prat in the 70s, just like everyone else.

During the 'Thatcher Years' I lost my hair and a lot of people lost a good deal more. My career fluctuated to say the least as I was demoted, promoted, fired and hired a number of times, but still I managed to stagger on into a welcome retirement and to celebrate 47 years of happy marriage.

The worst movie ever ?

Posted by Big John on January 9, 2007

It’s been many years since I saw a movie at the cinema. I think that I gave up when the audiences started to spend more time eating, drinking and chatting than watching the ’silver screen’.

I still enjoy a good film and scan the TV programmes every day in the hope of finding something worth watching on one of the movie channels.

Sometimes I just like to relax and be entertained by a movie with a ‘beginning’, a ‘middle’ and an ‘end’, but I am not adverse to having my brain exercised at times, by being made to concentrate on the plots of such films as ‘Pulp Fiction’ and ‘The Usual Suspects’.

Last night I watched a film which I recall had been compared with those two great films on it’s release. It was the movie ‘Revolver’ made in 2005 and directed by Madonna’s old man, Guy Ritchie: and I have to say that I have never seen a bigger load of bleeding crap in all my life !

OK, I could just about understand that this pretentious psychobabble was something to do with greed, revenge and shedding one’s ego. Well at least that’s what I think it was about; but please feel free to correct me on this if you also wasted two hours of your life by watching this .. ‘brilliant’ .. utter mess of a film.

I wonder what’s on tonight ?  …  Something less complex ?  …

…   Something by Ingmar Bergman perhaps ?    ;-)
